Boney Recruitment

Michigan extended an offer to Boney in late January and immediately became a major player in his recruitment.

The Wolverines hosted Boney for his first visit earlier this month. It was there where Michigan took command of his recruitment.

Boney had official visits scheduled with Cincinnati, Tulane and West Virginia. However, he opted to commit to Michigan early instead.

Here is what Holland had to say about Boney.

“Michigan valued Boney much more than the ranking,” Holland said. “Boney is ranked as a three-star by three services and is unranked by the other. I also have Boney graded as a three-star recruit. He’s very undersized for the position, which doesn’t equate to a high hit rate. Michigan will hope Boney can be an anomaly — similar to Josaiah Stewart. While Boney is short, he does play with speed off the edge and has high level technique. He’s also very productive at St. John’s, one of the best programs in the DMV. He plays against quality competition in his league. I think Michigan will take around three EDGEs this cycle, so Boney is completely fine to take a chance on, especially with Lou Esposito’s track record.”

Boney is currently set to return to Michigan for an official visit on June 13. However, now that he’s committed, he could move that trip to June 20, which is Victor’s Weekend.

At 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, Boney is ranked as the No. 83 EDGE and No. 937 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 4 overall overall recruit in the District of Columbia this cycle.

Michigan now has five commits in its 2026 recruiting class — Boney, Top 100 Newberry Park (Calif.) High quarterback Brady Smigiel, On300 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin cornerback Brody Jennings, three-star Cartersville (Ga.) Cass offensive lineman Bear McWhorter and three-star Dallas (Texas) Parish Episcopal wide receiver Jaylen Pile.

Michigan entered the day with the No. 23 ranked 2026 recruiting class nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings. Michigan is also ranked No. 7 in the Big Ten. USC currently has the top class in the conference.

Michigan also has the No. 9 ranked transfer portal class this cycle, per the On3 transfer portal index.
