Wolverine TV: Breaking down new Top 100 Michigan DB commit Ivan Taylor

Michigan flipped Top 100 Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange safety Ivan Taylor from Notre Dame on Monday afternoon.

The Wolverines EJ Holland shares his thoughts on the massive recruiting win in the video above.

Taylor originally committed to Notre Dame back in December. However, the Irish put together a crowded class in the secondary, and Taylor began to explore other options this offseason.

New Michigan secondary coach LaMar Morgan visited Taylor at his school during the spring evaluation period and was able to get him on campus for an official visit in June. Taylor also took OVs to both Alabama and Notre Dame.

At the end of the day, Taylor felt the most comfortable at Michigan and switched his verbal pledge following a positive call with Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore, Morgan and the rest of the staff over the weekend.

Here is what Holland had to say about this recruitment.

“This recruitment had some weird turns,” Holland said. “But at the end of the day, Michigan was able to flip Taylor. A massive, massive land for Michigan, which needed an elite safety this cycle. I think Ivan Taylor is that. He’s at 6-foot, 180 pounds. He’s very technically sound. He’s just a big-time playmaker on the back end. I think he’ll have a chance to be an early contributor for Michigan.”

At 6-foot, 180, Taylor is ranked as the No. 7 safety and No. 59 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 8 overall recruit in the state of Florida this cycle.

Groves offensive lineman Avery Gach, four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka, three-star New Orleans (La.) Archbishop Shaw running back Jasper Parker, three-star Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy offensive lineman Kaden Strayhorn, three-star Stockbridge (Ga.) High linebacker Chase Taylor and three-star Alcoa (Tenn.) High tight end Eli Owens.

The class entered the day ranked No. 17 nationally and No. 4 in the Big Ten, per the On3 Industry national team recruiting rankings. The Wolverines currently sit behind Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State.
