Wolverine TV: Can Michigan keep Jacob Smith, Jerod Smith committed?
The Wolverine’s EJ Holland and Zach Libby discussed several Michigan recruiting topics on the Tuesday edition of The Wolverine Live recruiting show, including the latest on four-star Michigan commits Jacob Smith and Jerod Smith.
Watch and listen to Holland and Libby share the latest on Michigan recruiting above.
Recruitment of the Smith twins
Jerod, a four-star defensive lineman, and Jacob, a four-star EDGE, both committed to Michigan in the offseason. Jerod made his decision first, while Jacob decided to take his time and gave the Wolverines a verbal pledge a few months later.
However, the Smith twins may not be done with the recruiting process. The two brothers recently transferred to Corbin (Ky.) High and have visited Kentucky three times over the last three months, including an unofficial visit over the weekend for the Wildcats’ home opener.
Here is what Holland had to say about the situation:
“My takeaways is that the Kentucky threat isn’t gone,” Holland said. “There is a reason they visited Kentucky three times over the last three months. I know they’ve had positive conversations with Michigan. I know they’ve told Michigan — or at least indicated to Michigan — that they are happy with their pledge. But I think Kentucky can offer two things. One is NIL…. Two, more importantly and going past NIL because I don’t think Kentucky is an NIL heavy hitter, is the Smith twins are very close and family oriented. Moving back home has given Kentucky the inside track to keep them at home.”
Jacob is ranked as the No. 18 EDGE and No. 276 overall prospect nationally, while Jerod is ranked as the No. 26 defensive lineman and No. 256 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
