The Wolverine’s EJ Holland was recently on the road in Virginia and saw five key Michigan recruits, including five-star Richmond (Va.) St. Christopher’s offensive lineman Darius Gray.

Gray Recruitment

Gray notched an offer from Michigan in March of 2023 and made his first-ever visit to Ann Arbor last spring.

Gray returned to Michigan for the first time since then last month and spent extended time with Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome.

Here is what Gray had to say about the visit:

“It was fantastic,” Gray said. “Coach (Grant) Newsome is a fantastic guy. Everybody in that building is great. They are all great people. I got to see (freshman cornerback) Shamari (Earls) as well. I was excited to be in Ann Arbor. I just had a great time.”

While Gray has yet to lock in an official visit with Michigan, he does want to make it back for a game this fall. Gray plans to make his final decision later in the process.

Right now, Gray has summer official visits scheduled with Clemson, Tennessee, Auburn, Ohio State, LSU, Penn State and South Carolina.

South Carolina has the lead for Gray on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with an 81.1 percent chance of landing him. Ohio State is in second place with a 3.6 percent chance of landing him. Penn State is in third place with a 2.3 percent chance of landing him.

At 6-foot-3, 285 pounds, Gray is ranked as the No 1 interior offensive lineman and No. 23 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 2 overall recruit in the state of Virginia for this cycle.

Michigan has five commits in its 2026 recruiting class — Top 100 Newberry Park (Calif.) High quarterback Brady Smigiel, On300 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin cornerback Brody Jennings, three-star Cartersville (Ga.) Cass offensive lineman Bear McWhorter, three-star Washington (D.C.) St. John’s EDGE Tariq Boney and three-star Dallas (Texas) Parish Episcopal wide receiver Jaylen Pile.

Michigan entered the day with the No. 27 ranked 2026 recruiting class nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings. Michigan is also ranked No. 8 in the Big Ten. USC currently has the top class in the conference.

Michigan also has the No. 10 ranked transfer portal class this cycle, per the On3 transfer portal index.
