Wolverine TV: Five key recruits Michigan saw on the road this week
The Michigan staff hit the recruiting trail this week and saw several top targets across the country. The Wolverine’s EJ Holland takes a closer look at five recruits that received visits from the U-M coaches, including On300 Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback and Michigan commit Carter Smith.

Smith Recruitment
Michigan made five-star Belleville (Mich.) High quarterback Bryce Underwood its top priority throughout the calendar year. However, that didn’t stop U-M quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell from recruiting other prospects at the position.
Campbell saw Smith throw live in October and extended an offer during his first-ever unofficial visit for the game against Purdue earlier this month.
While Underwood was still on the board at the time, Campbell pushed for Smith’s verbal commitment and earned it just a little more than week following his trip to Ann Arbor.
“It was awesome,” Smith said. “It was great to get up there and get around the coaching staff. I walked around the campus and got a feel for everything. I got a facility tour. Friday was mainly hanging around the coaches, the players and the people in the building. For it being my first game, it really impressed. It was definitely a sight to see.”
Smith passed for 3,104 yards and 29 touchdowns with six interceptions and also rushed for 692 yards and 19 touchdowns as a sophomore last season.
At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Smith is ranked as the No. 9 quarterback and No. 112 overall prospect nationally, per On3. He is also ranked as the No. 17 recruit in the state of Florida for next cycle.
