Shovlin Recruitment

Shovlin notched an offer from Michigan in June when he made his first-ever unofficial visit.

Both Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston and staffer Dylan Roney are involved in his recruitment and are making him a top priority on the EDGE board next cycle.

Shovlin is looking to make a return trip to Ann Arbor before the end of the season but has no date set in stone.

Along with Michigan, Shovlin holds offers from Boston College, Duke, Maryland, Penn State, Rutgers, Stanford, USC, Wisconsin and others.

At 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, Shovlin is ranked as the No. 17 defensive lineman and No. 172 overall prospect nationally, per On3. Shovlin is also ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in the state of Connecticut for next cycle.

Penn State currently has the lead for Shovlin on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 27.7 percent chance of landing him. Rutgers is second with an 18.3 percent chance of landing him. Michigan is tied for fourth with an 8.9 percent chance of landing him.

RPM was released to the public in December 2021. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.  It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

Michigan has two verbal commitments in its 2025 recruiting class in Top 100 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna defensive back Chris Ewald and four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka. The class is ranked No. 17 nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings.
