Wolverine TV: Is Michigan still in the race for five-star QB Bryce Underwood?
The Wolverine’s EJ Holland and Zach Libby discussed several Michigan recruiting topics on the Tuesday edition of The Wolverine Live recruiting show, including the latest on five-star 2025 Belleville (Mich.) High quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Watch and listen to Holland and Libby share the latest on Michigan recruiting above.
Underwood Recruitment
Underwood released a top schools list of Alabama, Colorado, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Oregon and Penn State last week.
This recruitment has long been considered an LSU-Michigan recruiting battle. Michigan has hosted Underwood for more visits than any other program, while LSU made a strong impression on his unofficial visit to Baton Rouge last month.
This race did change a bit on Tuesday afternoon, however, as Michigan scored a commitment from On300 2025 Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith. So is Underwood still an option for the Wolverines?
Here is what Holland had to say about the situation.
“Michigan is going to continue to recruit Underwood until he makes that decision in January,” Holland said. “They are very, very happy with Carter Smith. If Underwood goes to LSU, they’ll be fine with Smith onboard. There is a reason they took Carter Smith this early. I agree with it. I think it was a smart move by Kirk Campbell. I’m tired of the all your eggs in one basket approach. I’m glad it’s retired. I still think LSU is the team to beat for Bryce Underwood, but I don’t think Smith’s commitment has anything to do with Underwood.”
At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, Underwood is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 1 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking.

Michigan has three verbal commitments in its 2025 recruiting class in Smith, Top 100 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna defensive back Chris Ewald and four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka. The class is ranked No. 10 nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings.
