The Wolverine recently stopped by Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier to meet up with 2024 Michigan defensive lineman signee Ted Hammond.

Watch the full Q&A above.

Hammond Recruitment

Hammond committed to Michigan in January of last year and eventually signed with the reigning national champions in December.

“I remember watching those guys during the spring game and spring practice,” Hammond told The Wolverine. “You don’t realize at that time, but you could be watching the greatest college football team of all time, and you’re watching the best college football team in the country at that point. So just seeing how hard those guys worked in the offseason, seeing how much it paid off, and their successes really inspires me and brings me great joy going into Michigan.”

Even though Michigan lost former defensive line coach Mike Elston to the NFL, Hammond is looking forward to working with new hire Greg Scruggs, who’s a fellow Cincinnati native, as well as recently promoted head coach Sherrone Moore.

“You get a players coach,” Hammond said. “You get a guy who’s been in the same shoes as you coming in to coach you. (Scuggs) knows how you fit in the system, and he knows who you are. I just can’t wait to get up there.

“There’s no one better. What did Zach Zinter say? ‘It’s Papa Moore’s time.’ He’s 2-0 against Top 10 opponents. He beats the best, he’s coached the best, and he knows the best. He’s just a determined leader and a fearless leader.”

Michigan won out for Marshall over notable contenders like Iowa, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Louisville, and others.
