The Wolverine stopped by Howell (Mich.) High last week to meet with 2025 four-star Michigan defensive lineman commit Bobby Kanka.

Kanka Recruitment

Kanka committed to Michigan following his return for the annual late July BBQ at The Big House, which was one of several visits that the in-stater made to campus over the course of a year after being offered in March of 2022.

He chose the Wolverines over notable offers from Penn State, Michigan State, Northwestern, Tennessee, Syracuse, Louisville, Minnesota, Kansas, and others.

“I felt like I was almost part of the team and part of the family,” Kanka told The Wolverine after the national championship. “It was cool. I felt like I was with them the entire time, even though I wasn’t on the field playing. It felt like I was close with the team and coaching staff. Watching them do their thing was cool feeling like I was a part of it.”

Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston led the way in landing a commitment from Kanka.

“(Elston has) sent guys to the NFL and will continue sending guys to the NFL,” Kanka said. “The guys there right now, too, like Kris Jenkins and Mason Graham, guys who I’ve been around in team meetings. I’m just looking forward to learning as much as possible from him. The workout I had with him (at the barbecue), I learned a bunch of stuff that I’m already using right now. He sees me a big d-tackle for him.”
