Wolverine TV: Q&A with top Michigan OL target Rowan Byrne
The Wolverine’s EJ Holland recently sat down with three-star New Rochelle (N.Y.) Iona Prep offensive lineman Rowan Byrne to get his thoughts on Michigan and more.

Byrne Recruitment
Byrne doesn’t have an official top schools list but has made it clear that Michigan is a top contender in his recruitment early on.
U-M hosted Byrne for three unofficial visits last year, including for the game against Ohio State in November.
“The visit went great,” Byrne said. “I spent a good amount of time with the coaches. I was with (fellow On300 offensive lineman) Michael Carroll. We got there around the same time. We didn’t think Coach (Sherrone) Moore was going to make it out to talk to us, but he came out around 10:15. It was really nice to be able to talk to him. I also got to talk to him post-game in the locker room. It was the best visit I’ve had on a game day by far. In terms of atmosphere, it was the best I’ve seen, too.”
Byrne returned to Michigan for a fourth time this winter. It was the first recruiting weekend under new head coach Sherrone Moore.

“It went really well,” Byrne said. “I love it out there, so it’s always nice to be in Ann Arbor. There weren’t a lot of guys there, so that was nice because we got a lot of individual time to ask questions and things like that. I wouldn’t say it was too different. They have a nice layout for visits. But Coach (Grant) Newsome is the new offensive line coach and Coach (Justin) Tress is the new strength coach, so it was nice to get some time with them.
At 6-foot-4, 285 pounds, Byrne is ranked as the No. 33 interior offensive lineman and No. 540 overall prospect in the country, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 2 overall recruit in the state of New York for next cycle.
Rutgers currently has the lead for Byrne on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 24.2 percent chance of landing him. Michigan is in third place with a 14.6 percent chance of landing him.
Michigan currently has three commitments in its 2025 recruiting class — On300 Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith, On300 Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka and three-star Alcoa (Tenn.) High tight end Eli Owens. The class is ranked No. 19 nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings.
