Michigan football press conference notes

The three players discussed the below topics, among others:

• Hayes discussed Michigan’s team as a whole and said it’s further along right now than it was a year ago at this time. That’s significant news, and echoes what head coach Jim Harbaugh said recently, considering the Wolverines won the 2022 Big Ten title and made the College Football Playoff.

• Morris talked about Michigan’s aim to become more of a “cohesive unit” on defense. In comedic fashion, Morris quoted senior defensive tackle Mazi Smith, who seems to be the ring leader for that push in dynamic. Morris also discussed gaining 14 pounds to get up to 292 pounds, and how his role will be to move around Michigan’s defensive line. He wants to be able to produce anywhere from EDGE to nose tackle, and everywhere in between.

• Schoonmaker and senior tight end Erick All are under the “spotlight,” he said, with both landing on the Mackey Award preseason watch list. The pressure is on them to deliver, and both are pushing each other to be the best they can be.
