The Wolverine’s EJ Holland was on the road this spring and saw five-star Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga EDGE Carter Meadows, a top priority for Michigan this cycle, at a private workout.

Meadows Recruitment

Michigan extended an offer to Meadows in August of last year and got him on campus for his first visit in the fall for the game against USC.

Meadows returned to Michigan for another unofficial visit this spring and took in a practice. Meadows has also locked in an official visit with Michigan for June 20.

Michigan is in Meadow’s top group along with Ohio State, Penn State and South Carolina.

Here is what Holland had to say about where the Wolverines stand in this recruitment.

“I think Michigan is in a really good spot coming out of his spring visit,” Holland said. “The Wolverines will be getting him back on campus on June 20, which happens to be Victors Weekend. That also means Michigan will get him in last. Meadows is a terrific student in the classroom and could very well be this cycle’s Andrew Babalola. You may not have to break the bank with NIL as Meadows is looking for an elite blend of academics and development — similar to Babalola. Meadows is that tall, long pass rusher that Michigan didn’t land last cycle. They have to close with him.”

Meadows is from the same high school that produced Michigan offensive lineman Evan Link and defensive back Kainoa Winston.

At 6-foot-6, 225 pounds, Meadows is ranked as the No. 2 EDGE and No. 6 overall prospect nationally, per On3. He is also ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in D.C. for this cycle.

Michigan has the lead for Meadows on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 40.0 percent chance of landing him.

Michigan has five commits in its 2026 recruiting class — Top 100 Newberry Park (Calif.) High quarterback Brady Smigiel, On300 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin cornerback Brody Jennings, three-star Cartersville (Ga.) Cass offensive lineman Bear McWhorter, three-star Washington (D.C.) St. John’s EDGE Tariq Boney and three-star Dallas (Texas) Parish Episcopal wide receiver Jaylen Pile.

Michigan entered the day with the No. 26 ranked 2026 recruiting class nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings. Michigan is also ranked No. 8 in the Big Ten. USC currently has the top class in the conference.

Michigan also has the No. 10 ranked transfer portal class this cycle, per the On3 transfer portal index.
