The Wolverine’s EJ Holland was recently on the road and saw On300 Leesburg (Va.) Loudoun County offensive lineman Carter Scruggs at a private workout.

Watch full clips from his training session at the end of this story.

Scruggs Recruitment

Michigan extended an offer to Scruggs last June when he made his way to Ann Arbor for one of the Wolverines’ on-campus summer camps.

Scruggs impressed Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome en route to being named camp OL MVP. Scruggs returned for an unofficial visit in the fall when Michigan took on rival Michigan State.

Now, Scruggs is set to make an official visit to Michigan on June 6. Scruggs is also looking to attend a Michigan spring practice but has not finalized a date.

Here is what Holland had to say about his recruitment.

“Scruggs is listed as an interior offensive lineman, but Michigan has been recruiting him as more of a tackle,” Holland said. “I think he’s a guy who can start inside and work his way out. Scruggs has improved his frame as well as his athleticism and feet. In terms of his recruitment, Michigan is right in the mix. He’s visited Michigan on several occasions and will be back for his official visit in June. However, Michigan does face tough competition from Georgia, Penn State and a few other programs. He told me he is going to make his decision at some point in the summer.”

Scruggs is also set to make summer official visits to Clemson, Georgia and Penn State. He is looking to make a decision before the start of his senior season.

Penn State has the lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with an 82.2 percent chance of landing him. Michigan is in second place with a 4.5 percent chance of landing him.

At 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, Scruggs is ranked as the No. 10 interior offensive lineman and No. 139 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 3 overall recruit in the state of Virginia for this cycle.

Michigan currently has two commits in its 2026 recruiting class in On300 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin cornerback Brody Jennings and three-star Dallas (Texas) Parish Episcopal wide receiver Jaylen Pile.

Michigan’s 2026 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 56 nationally and No. 14 in the Big Ten, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings. Oregon has the top class in the conference.
