The Wolverine’s EJ Holland and Zach Libby discussed several Michigan recruiting topics on the Tuesday edition of The Wolverine Live recruiting show, including what a Jim Harbaugh contract extension would mean for U-M on the trail.

Watch and listen to Holland and Libby share the latest on Michigan recruiting above.

Harbaugh Contract Buzz

A weekend report from the Wall Street Journal stated that Michigan had rescinded a contract that would have made Jim Harbaugh the highest paid coach in the Big Ten.

However, Harbaugh denied the report at his Monday press conference.

“I wouldn’t say that’s accurate, no,” Harbaugh said. “And the university has a policy. I think they made a statement … about the policy on contracts and publicly talking about them. I think it was worded that they don’t comment about them until they are done.”

The Wolverine’s Chris Balas reported on Tuesday that a Harbaugh extension is actually moving forward quickly. If a deal does get done soon, Michigan could see a positive impact on the recruiting trail.

Here is what Holland had to say about the situation.

“If you can avoid the Jim Harbaugh to NFL talk, and you have an extension and that gets announced, then you can finally build on that success on the field,” Holland said. “You would have the wins on the field, the Harbaugh extension and most of the staff has ties to Michigan, so I wouldn’t expect a ton of movement. The next easy step is upgrading the recruiting department. That can happen right away. The most important final step would be having an exact NIL plan on the recruiting trail.”

Michigan has 25 commits in its 2024 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 4 in the Big Ten and No. 14 nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings. The class is highlighted by Davis, Top 100 Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller running back Jordan Marshall, Top 100 Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst offensive tackle Andrew Sprague and Top 100 Rochester (Mich.) Adams tight end Brady Prieskorn.
