Michigan is set to host several talented recruits for its clash with Penn State this weekend, including top 2023 linebacker target Arion Carter.

The four-star prospect out of Smyrna (Tenn.) High is one of the hottest recruits in the country, earning offers from several Power Five programs over the last few weeks. Michigan is scheduled to be his first official visit, and the Wolverines are sure to roll out the Maize and Blue carpet.

In this week’s episode of Recruit of the Week, The Wolverine’s EJ Holland shares the latest on Cater’s recruitment and gives his take on where exactly Michigan stands.

Carter committed to Memphis in July. It wasn’t until mid-September when his senior tape made the rounds and bigger schools came calling. Auburn jumped in the mix first followed by Alabama. Pretty soon, Carter nabbed scholarships from Michigan, LSU, Florida, Ole Miss, USC and others.

Carter plans to use all five of his official visits. After seeing Michigan, Carter will make an OV to Tennessee on Oct. 28. He will then take in Ohio State, Alabama and LSU for official visits in November. A decision is expected to come after all of his visits.

Michigan does have a tie to Carter through freshman defensive back Myles Pollard, who was part of the same club 7v7 program. The Wolverines have also been successful in the Nashville-area as of late. Along with Pollard, Michigan has landed sophomore linebacker Junior Colson, a former Top 100 recruit, and On300 linebacker Mason Curtis in the 2024 recruiting class.

Michigan has 14 commits in its 2023 recruiting class — On300 offensive tackle Evan Link, On300 EDGE Enow Etta, consensus four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring, four-star EDGE Collins Acheampong, four-star running back Cole Cabana, four-star linebacker Semaj Bridgeman, four-star tight end Deakon Tonielli, three-star wide receivers Semaj Morgan and Fredrick Moore, three-star defensive lineman Brooks Bahr, three-star running back Benjamin Hall, three-star EDGE Aymeric Koumba, three-star tight end Zack Marshall and three-star kicker Adam Samaha.

The class is currently ranked No. 26 nationally in the On3 Consensus rankings and No. 4 in the Big Ten behind Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State.
