Wolverine TV: Workout clips of Michigan DL commit Ted Hammond
Last Wednesday, The Wolverine traveled to an indoor training facility located in Cincinnati, Ohio, to see 2024 Michigan defensive line commit Ted Hammond for the first time since his announced pledge back in late-January. Hammond’s decision occurred following a return visit in Ann Arbor take part in the team’s Junior Day festivities.
Hammond’s private workouts with local renowned defensive line trainer, Nick Staderman of LEVERAGE Performance, are a weekly occurrence as the rising junior prepares for his final campaign at Cincinnati St. Xavier High and his anticipated arrival at Michigan next year.
Specific drills and areas of technique that Hammond and Staderman worked out were shedding blocks, light footwork, fast hands, explosiveness of the whistle and engaging offensive lineman while maintaining gap control.
“(Hammond) has the physical stature, so my biggest thing is helping him elevate his I.Q. both on-and-off the field,” Staderman told The Wolverine. “I’d love for him to continue developing his quick twitch and bigger, longer body in order to play well at the next level. Being able to move that amount of size with a quick burst is key. Also, continuing to work on his flexibility. He’s training like crazy and is doing what he needs to do.”
The trip also featured Hammond discussing his role with assisting Michigan’s coaching staff on recruiting other marquee prospects in the state of Ohio, including his good friend and Top 100 running back target Jordan Marshall.
