WATCH: Albert Reese details new look Mississippi State O-Line
With spring football underway, Mississippi State offensive lineman Albert Reese met with the media to talk about his new position within the group and how the group is meshing with so many new faces.
Q: How did the first day of practice go?
Reese: It went pretty smoothly as far as first days go. We just learned all these plays, this new offense, so I feel like it went pretty good. People knew what they were doing.
Q: What does adding a third offense to learn now add to your resume?
Reese: Every offense is different. Especially all three of them. You know, you had the air raid, you had more of a run heavy offense, and now we’re more balanced out, so it just kinds of adds an overall understanding of any kind of offense. I know them all pretty much now.
Q: When it comes to your new role, how do you feel like you’re settling in?
Reese: I feel good. I’m playing left tackle now, and I haven’t played a whole lot of left tackle here at State, so I’m adapting to that right now.
Q: How has this year been different from an offensive line coaching perspective?
Reese: Honestly, it’s not that different. Fundamentally especially, it’s all the same there.

Q: When you met with your new offensive line coach for the first time, what was your response like from him?
Reese: Just get down and go to work, pretty much.
Q: How have the new transfers along the o-line been settling in?
Reese: They’ve been settling really well, and I think coach has especially done a good job making sure everybody is on the same page. It’s not like old guys know way more than young guys, young guys barely know anything. They’re trying to keep us all mentally at the same place, so nobody’s playing catch up.
Q: How does it feel to be the old guy now?
Reese: I’ll be honest, that makes me feel really old, being one of the upperclassmen now.
Q: How do you feel about the opportunity to kind of get more downhill on people?
Reese: I like it a lot. With the Air Raid, there was obviously a lot of pass, so it’s a big adjustment now, but it’s nice to finally get some more running going in.
Q: What do you think that you need to work on individually this spring?
Reese: Consistency and knowing every single detail of every single play.
Q: What is the new strength program like?
Reese: It was a lot different than what we had before. We’re working more with coaches now instead of solely with your partner like last time, but I like it. It’s been good.
Q: Any new PR’s you want to brag about?
Reese: Shoot. Squat went up a little bit. It’s at about 535, 540.
