2025 juco cornerback Amarien Jefferson discusses Mississippi State commitment
With each passing month of his final juco campaign, 2025 cornerback Amarien Jefferson consistently added to his list of Division 1 offers. Then not long after his season at East Central Community College, Jefferson collected his first Power 4 offer from Mississippi State.
After being patient throughout his recruitment, the Tylertown native didn’t take long to accept that Bulldog offer as he joined State’s Class of 2025 on Wednesday .
“I just wanted to take things week by week,” Jefferson mentioned. “But I knew I didn’t want to take long to make my decision once I got the Mississippi State offer.”
This past season, Jefferson helped lead East Central to the MACJC state championship game. On the season Jefferson collected 40 tackles, four interceptions, four PBUs and one fumble recovery while earning first-team all-state honors.
And now he’s eager to enroll at Mississippi State in January and enter the SEC ranks.
“It’s a great opportunity,” remarked Jefferson. “It’s a great opportunity to be in the SEC and I want to earn everything. I knew I could make it there after my great season. I had a couple of picks even though not many teams threw to my side of the field. But I had a great year.”
Jefferson collected his Mississippi State offer during last weekend’s official visit. While Jefferson had experienced trips to Starkville before, his most recent visit provided more time to gain perspective inside the program.
“I’d been to Mississippi State before so it was good to be back,” Jefferson recalled. “My official visit was great and it was great to be around the people there. It was a great experience. The people around there have good energy and a good vibe. The entire visit was good.”

Jefferson also got a good vibe from his future position mates in the State secondary. He listened to their advice about the program and got first-hand knowledge of what to expect at the next level.
“I was around most of their defensive backs and corners,” added Jefferson, a former high school quarterback . “I was with them most of the time and they told me how everything works there. They let me know what the program is about and how they do things every day. They took me in and it was cool.”
With the December signing period arriving next week, Jefferson was appreciative that his college future got much clearer the past couple of days. Making his decision even more gratifying to Jefferson was seeing his hard work pay dividends on the gridiron.
“I talked with Coach Bell and Coach Lebby,” noted the 6-foot-1 and 180-pound Jefferson. “Those were the main two coaches I talked to most of the time. They were telling me some good things. Then they ended up offering me during one of our talks.
“II was excited but I also felt like I deserved the offer. So it was a good feeling with how everything worked out. And it worked out well.”
