The final stages of Anson Lewis‘ recruiting process didn’t bring about a whole lot of drama. For much of his recruitment, the 2025 receiver and On3 three-star prospect kept a low profile.

Then in November, Lewis committed to Mississippi State and quietly went about his business. These days, Lewis is just a couple of days away from starting classes at Mississippi State to jumpstart his Bulldog gridiron career. Lewis is rated as the nation’s No. 98 receiver and the state’s No. 17 prospect by On3 composite rankings.

“It’s great to know that I’ll be getting a head start,” noted Lewis. “Getting there early will only help. Like I said, I’m already cool with the coaches and the players. So it already feels like home to me. All I got to do is move my stuff in and get ready to move in a few more weeks.”

Last month Lewis got another in-depth look at what to expect in State’s program. Lewis was among a dozen official visitors on campus that weekend and he was able to finish off any remaining questions he had about the Bulldogs.

“Man, my official visit was just great,” Lewis recalled. “Me and the coaches really hit off. They covered every little thing I needed to know and I loved everything about it. I can’t wait to get there.”

Throughout his official visit, the Oak Grove High School product was also able to get a good taste of what State’s current receivers go through on a daily basis. That included sitting in on pregame meetings for State’s final home game against Missouri last month.

“We talked about receiver a good bit,” added the 6-foot-2 and 190-pound Lewis. “I went to the wide receivers’ room and those meetings. I got to be around Coach Bump (Chad Bumphis) in those meetings. But that wide receiver room is pretty heavy but I feel like I fit in just perfect.”

As he noted, Lewis does have solid relationships with several players on the roster. That included his player host during his official visit.

“Frisco Magee was my host,” Lewis remarked. “He plays receiver, too, and me and him already knew each other. He’s not too far from my hometown and he’s from McComb, like 30 minutes away. He loves it there and he got here back in June. So I will be able to work with him in the spring and summer, and hopefully I fit in good with those guys.”

Looking ahead to his arrival to campus, Lewis also has faith in head coach Jeff Lebby and his abilities to improve State’s program. He recalled the advice he received from Lebby during that official visit and how Lebby prepared him for his introduction to college football.

“Coach Lebby has a good message for me,” Lewis mentioned. “He said show me your friends and I will show you your future. And Coach Bump, was just talked about everything I need to know. He wants to make sure everything is straight so I can be there in January.”
