Mississippi State official visit awaits 2025 defensive back Antavious Richardson
2025 Georgia State commitment and athlete prospect Antavious Richardson held a lot of responsibilities for Greenville (Ga.) High School last year. Rarely did Richardson stay on the sidelines regardless of which unit was on the field.
Entering his final prep season, Richardson is expected to keep those same duties this fall, and he expects bigger and better things.
“Last year I played quarterback, running back, receiver, rover, corner and safety,” said Richardson. “I also played on special teams. Honestly, I did pretty decent but I think I will perform better my senior year.”
After committing to Georgia State this spring, Richardson has started to attract more interest on the recruiting trail. He camped at Mississippi State last week and was able to display his versatility in the defensive back drills.
“The Mississippi State camp was great and it was the best camp I’ve been to so far,” Richardson recalled. “They worked me out at cornerback and safety, and I thought it went good. It was great to learn from Coach (Matt) Barnes and Coach (Corey) Bell, too.”
Under those coaches, Richardson was also able to add a few new things to his game in the secondary. He noted of that experience and what he was able to improve on during State’s camp session.
“They really taught me a lot about technique for the most part,” added the 6-foot-2 and 170-pound Richardson, who posted a 4.5 forty at camp. “They showed me how to be smooth and fluid with what I am doing. They taught me how to open up my hips more and it was just little stuff they were showing me.”
Once the camp drills concluded, Richardson’s day in Starkville got even better. During a conversation with Barnes, Richardson was offered by Mississippi State.

“Mississippi State started recruiting me around April or May,” remarked Richardson. “I have mainly been talking with Coach Barnes and it’s a great relationship. When he offered me after camp, he was saying Mississippi State is the place where they can do something special. He feels like Mississippi State is home for me and he wants me to visit them again.”
This weekend, Richardson is planning a return trip to Mississippi State for an official visit. He also has another official visit set for June along with another SEC camp appearance scheduled.
“I think I’m going on an official visit to Mississippi State this weekend,” Richardson noted. “Then I have an official visit to South Florida on June 21-23 and I also have another camp left at Florida.”
Despite his commitment to Georgia State, Richardson is keeping an open mind on the recruiting trail. He does want to finalize his future, however, at some point during his senior season at Greenville High School.
“My recruitment is still open so I am still approaching it the same way,” Richardson mentioned. “I will probably make my final decision on homecoming or senior night, something like that. So it will probably be during the season.”
