2025 defensive lineman Caleb Smith recaps Top Dawg Clinic showing
Parker (Ala.) High School’s Caleb Smith has taken in several recent trips to Mississippi State’s campus over the past few months. Last week the 2025 defensive lineman and On3 three-star prospect was back at Davis Wade Stadium for a different visit experience.
Smith was able to go through drills at Top Dawg Clinic last Thursday and used that opportunity to learn more about his position from State defensive line coach David Turner. Smith is rated as the nation’s No. 68 defensive lineman and the state’s No. 32 prospect by On3 composite rankings.
“I’ve been there four or five times,” Smith recalled. “So it was great time again at camp. I definitely got better thanks to Coach Turner and all of the other coaches there. They did a good job at camp and made us all better.
“It is a program and they have good players they develop that go on to the league. It’s also the SEC, the best conference in the country.”
During his time under Turner’s direction, Smith was able to add more tools to his game in the trenches. And he also felt good about the feedback he received from Turner as he exited camp drills.
“With Coach Turner, it was about learning more things,” added the 6-foot-3 and 235-pound Smith. “He taught me more ways to use my hands and how to be more explosive off the ball. Then after camp Coach Turner said I did a good job and he liked what he saw from me.”
This coming weekend, Smith will be back on the road. He opens up his official visits’ tour in ACC country on Friday and will have three official visits this month. He is also in the process of setting up another official visit, as well.

“I have an official visit to Georgia Tech this coming weekend,” Smith said. “Then I have an official visit to Purdue the next weekend and then Oklahoma State that weekend after Purdue. I am also trying to schedule an official visit to Mississippi State and we are working on that right now.”
Thus far, Smith holds over two dozen Division 1 offers with several coming from Power 5 programs. Of that group, he has a handful of schools catching his attention the most.
“I have over 25 offers now,” noted Smith. “The main ones I am looking at would be Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Purdue, Oklahoma State and a few more.”
Once Smith wraps up his summer official visits, he hinted that his college decision wouldn’t be that far behind. He also noted of the factors that will play a role in that college choice.
“Right now I am looking to make my decision in late July,” mentioned Smith. “I want to look at the team, the coaching staff, the academics and the strengths of the coaches.”
