2026 linebacker Caleb Triplett joins State's class after enjoyable weekend visit

Mississippi State welcomed numerous Magnolia State recruits to campus this weekend and several made their Bulldog commitments. That included 2026 linebacker Caleb Triplett, who was one of the most in-state offers given by the Bulldogs’ staff.
After leaving his official visit on Sunday, the D’Iberville High School standout announced his Mississippi State decision.
“It just felt like home,” the 6-foot-2 and 215-pound Triplett explained. “I really felt welcomed there by everyone. It was exciting to make my decision and in the end, I felt it was the right time to commit.”
Throughout the weekend, the 6-foot-2 and 215-pound Triplett and his fellow visitors maintained a busy schedule. And with each event he felt closer to his future teammates.
“The whole weekend was fun,” mentioned Triplett. “We did a lot of different things and we always had something to do with the coaches and the players. They made us feel welcomed and made us feel like part of the team.”
And that togetherness and team bond was another factor that stood out to Triplett. He saw that vibe during his time with the coaches and current Bulldogs.
“Probably the best part was seeing how involved the staff is with the team and the recruits,” Triplett recalled. “You can tell there is a bond there. I was with Coach Erroll Thompson and Coach (Coleman) Hutzler a good bit.”

Of course, there was a lot of football talk over the weekend, as well. He broke down some game film with Hutzler and learned more about his future in Hutzler’s defense.
“Coach Hutzler talked to me about playing mike linebacker,” added Triplett, who had 82 tackles and eight tackles for loss as a junior. “He likes that I am aggressive. He also likes that I am a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. He just likes the way I play and this weekend he was just telling me things about their defense.”
Triplett also mingled with another former Coast player as his Bulldog player host. But he also spent time with players on the other side of the football.
“I was mainly with Montrell Chapman, the linebacker from Gulf Coast that is there now,” Triplett noted. “I was also with their running backs and quarterbacks like Kamario Taylor. Then Coach (Jeff) Lebby was always around and he was talking to me about my season. He said he is ready to get me down there.”
