Regardless of the sport, there’s always a sense of accomplishment for athletes when signing day arrives. Such was the case on Wednesday for 2025 prospect and On3 three-star wing/guard Cameren Paul.

After years and years of working on his craft, the DeSoto (Texas) High School standout reached a major goal when he officially signed with Mississippi State. Paul was the second commitment in State’s Class of 2025 and made that decision official on Wednesday. He is rated as the nation’s No. 34 small forward and the state’s No. 11 prospect by On3 rankings.

“It is a very special day,” Paul remarked. “This is what I’ve been working for and to actually sign the papers was a relief. But I do know that once I get to Mississippi State, there’s going to be even more work to do.”

Paul chose the Bulldogs over several other Power 4 and mid-major offers from all across the country. But at the end of the day, his final decision revolved around “loyalty” and the coaching staff’s consistent interest.

“It was about their loyalty and their interest from the start,” explained Paul. “From the beginning, they were at most of my games. They were always contacting me after my games and just showed that they really wanted me.”

Of course, Paul also faced the normal pressures that come with the recruiting scene. He experienced that at an early age with several offers on his plate during his sophomore season. But through it all, he remained focused on the important task at hand and tried to be as consistent as possible.

“The recruiting process was nice,” Paul recalled. “It was a good experience to get offers and it showed that I was doing something right with my game. I just tried to stay consistent every time I stepped on the court.”

At the next level, Paul has the versatility to play a couple of backcourt positions for head coach Chris Jans and his staff. For now, most of the conversations have centered around shooting guard and regardless of his position, Paul brings a lot of offensive firepower to State’s 2025-26 roster.

“We really haven’t talked a whole lot about my role,” noted 6-foot-6 and 180-pound Paul. “But they know what I can do and I can score the ball. I can pass well and I think my role will be shooting, defending and fast-break transition, just pushing the ball up the court and being a vocal leader. And I think they like me the best at the two guard.”

Like any incoming freshman, Paul realizes the step-up in competition next season will be evident, particularly in the talent-laden SEC. But it’s a challenge that Paul embraces and he is eager to be in that type of environment at Humphrey Coliseum.

“It’s the top league in the country,” Paul mentioned. “So it’s pretty big to go to the SEC and I’m ready for it. I know there will be intense games and a packed-out crowd every game. I’m ready for it.”
