2025 Mississippi State signee Cameren Paul is only a few more months from beginning his college tenure. But the On3 three-star wing/guard prospect still has unfinished business left at Desoto (Texas) High School.

Paul, who officially signed with Mississippi State back in November, is heading down the back half of his team’s district schedule. Similar to previous seasons, Paul is showing his versatility in the backcourt at various spots. Paul is rated as the nation’s No. 34 small forward and the state’s No. 11 prospect by On3 rankings.

“We’re doing good,” remarked Paul. “We started out 4-3 in the district and have lost to good teams. But we’ve got a really good team and I’m averaging about 17 (points) a night. I’ve been playing the one, two and three, and I did that last year.”

Throughout his prep and AAU career, Paul has consistently proven to be a bucket-getter and can score at all three levels. But it’s on the defensive end where he feel he has made his biggest improvements in his senior season.

“My defense, for sure,” Paul added. “I know how to score the ball but if I lock in, defensively, it gives us a better chance of winning. So my team needs me on defense.”

Paul has also been keeping constant communication with his future coaches at Mississippi State, including head coach Chris Jans. He has maintained good bonds with Jans and company and noted of their advice for his senior season.

“It’s been good with Mississippi State,” noted the 6-foot-6 and 180-pound Paul. “I still talk to Coach (Dave) Anwar on a daily basis and I check in with Coach Jans, too. So everything with those relationships is still good. They’ve been telling me to stay aggressive and to play hard.”

Of course, Paul has taken notice of Mississippi State’s success this season. In particular, that includes the progress made on the offensive end of the court.

“I’ve been watching us a lot,” Paul explained. “We’re way better, offensively, this year compared to last year. We got to pick it up on the defensive end but they can be really good on that end, too.”

Looking ahead, Paul realizes the kind of talent he will face on a nightly basis in the SEC next season. He has discussed his possible positions at State with the coaches and is eager to be part of the nation’s toughest basketball league.

“I know I have to play hard every possession,” Paul mentioned. “They’ve talked to me about playing the two and the one, and it’s going to be fun in that league. It is going to be a great experience and I know it is the best conference in the world.”
