2026 offensive tackle prospect Charles Humphrey entered the offseason with a sense of urgency and rightfully so. An injury last season cost Humphrey most of his sophomore season at the Memphis Academy Science Engineering school.

But now he is healthy and eager to start up preparations for his upcoming season. That process has already started this summer with Humphrey working on his conditioning and staying in the playbook.

“The offseason has been good so far,” Humphrey explained. “I’ve been working to get back in shape and working on our offensive schemes. I didn’t get to play last year because of an injury. But man, I am ready to get back on the field this year and get those pads back on.”

Humphrey has played on both sides of the ball before at the prep level but this summer, his camp showings were on the offensive line. He made several camp stops in June and noted of those appearances.

“I went to a lot of camps this summer,” recalled the 6-foot-6 and 270-pound Humphrey. “I went to Arkansas State, Alabama State, Mississippi State camp, Memphis and Tennessee and some others. I just worked on the offensive line at those camps.”

Humphrey has also experienced a quick start on the recruiting trail. Despite his setback last year, he has totaled several Division 1 offers and that includes a pair of Power 4 offers, as well.

“So far I have offers from Memphis, Mississippi State, Oregon, Toledo, Arkansas State and Alabama State,” said Humphrey. “It feels good to get off to that kind of start. I just want to put the work in and showcase my talent. I want to show the college coaches what I’ve got.”

Regarding Mississippi State, Humphrey collected his Bulldog offer following a solid showing at a State camp session in June. He discussed that experience and his thoughts of being on State’s campus and around their staff.

“It was good at Mississippi State camp,” Humphrey remarked. “It felt good to get that offer and it was my first SEC offer. They’ve showed me a lot of love, especially the staff. Their offensive line coach, Coach (Cody) Kennedy, gave me a lot of tips at camp and he showed me what all I need to work on this season.”

Also with Kennedy, Humphrey has been able to get to know State’s offensive line coach this summer, including conversations after his camp session last month. So far, Humphrey has been impressed with his time around Kennedy.

“Coach Kennedy is a good guy and a good coach,” added Humphrey. “He knows what he is talking about. He is down to earth and he is honest. He’s not going to sugarcoat anything and he tells you straight up.”

Just entering his junior season, Humphrey doesn’t plan to rush his recruiting process and is eager to see what other offers he can earn in the future. But in the early stages, he has one school standing out the most.

“Right now Mississippi State is the main one sticking out,” Humphrey mentioned. “I really like their coaches and what they are doing there.”
