Davon Booth, Bulldogs seek to get running game going again
Mississippi State’s ground game was inconsistent last weekend in the 41-31 loss to Georgia after becoming a strong suit of the offense earlier this month. This weekend the Bulldogs will need to show a balanced attack to have success against a talented Texas A&M defensive front.
Earlier this week, Mississippi State senior tailback Davon Booth discussed that challenge and his thoughts on being back at Davis Wade Stadium this Saturday:
Q: How do you and Johnnie Daniels help each other prepare for an opponent?
Booth: I think we try to be better than each other. We’re always having little competitions here and there. So I feel like that just pushes us to get better.
Q: So when you see him break off a 19-yard touchdown run, you have to go match him right?
Booth: I tried to. I got caught and I’m a little slow. But I got a receiving touchdown so I’ll take it.
Q: How is it being back at home this Saturday after being on the road?
Booth: I am very happy. I hate traveling. So staying home in front of Davis Wade, it is going to be amazing.
Q: How much responsibility do the other offensive players have when it comes to helping Michael Van Buren overcome slow starts and help his confidence?
Booth: Honestly, we don’t have to do much. He’s very confident in what he does. I might try to help him but he already has it down pat.

Q: How is Van Buren in the huddle?
Booth: Week to week he’s gotten way better. He’s putting us in our place so he gets the play in the huddle and tells us what it is.
Q: What have you seen from Texas A&M so far?
Booth: Their front, they’re a good front. They’re very active and have a high motor as well as the back end and the whole box. So we just have to come prepared.
Q: How much confidence has been gained with the offense over the past couple of games?
Booth: We are very confident in what we do. We’re expected to do what we have to do. We have to just go in and do what we’ve been practicing for.
Q: How important is it for the fans to turn out for this three-game homestand?
Booth: Oh it’s very important. We’ve been coming together week by week. So we’re just asking for a little more support to help us win.
