2026 defensive lineman Davon Young discusses State decision and official visit

Last month saw Theodore (Ala.) High School’s Davon Young collect a Mississippi State offer and he followed up that offer with a good camp showing with the Bulldogs earlier this month.
This weekend the 2026 defensive lineman officially visited Mississippi State and on Sunday, announced his commitment to head coach Jeff Lebby’s class.
“I was excited to commit,” Young recalled. “It really felt like home there and it is a family-oriented program. They showed me a lot of interesting stuff this weekend and want me there.”
During his stay in Starkville, Young gained more insight into the program due to his time with the players and coaches. And among his player hosts were a couple of familiar faces that played in his area in Alabama.
“The best part was just hanging with the team and the coaches,” explained the 6-foot-3 and 282-pound Young. “I got to be around Fluff Boatwell and Kolin Wilson. Both of those guys are from my area and they were telling me good things about the program. They let me know what they do every day and how they are turning things around.”
Naturally, Young also talked more about his future on the field with defensive line coach David Turner. At Theodore High School, Young has played all over the defensive line but is expected to be on the interior at the next level.

“It was good with Coach Turner,” remarked Young. “He was going over with me the drills that his guys do and letting me know what I have to look forward to. He was telling me what his guys do there and how it’s going to be when I get there.”
And Young noted of the feedback he received from Turner about his abilities in the trenches.
“He likes me on the interior and I am used to that,” Young added. “He likes my hands and my feet, and he believes he can develop me there.”
After an exciting weekend, Young is already counting down the days before he begins his Maroon and White career. And he wants to take advantage of the opportunity to play in the SEC.”
“It’s a great opportunity,” Young noted. “I am excited to be in the SEC and everyone wants to be in that league. I am just ready to get there.”
