As the November signing period opened Wednesday, it was a special moment for basketball prospects all across the country. Such was the case with 2024 point guard and On3 composite three-star prospect Dellquan Warren.

The Eric (Pa.) native officially signed with Mississippi State on Wednesday after committing to the Bulldogs in September. The 6-foot-1 and 180-pound Warren is rated as the nation’s No. 15 point guard and the state’s No. 8 prospect per On3 composite.

“It was a surreal moment and a dream come true,” Warren explained. “From the city I come from, not a lot of guys go Division 1, much less the SEC. So today was a big moment for me and my family and my city.”

Also this week, Warren will get his senior season underway at Our Saviour Lutheran High School The Bronx, New York.  and he is eager to show off his offseason improvements.

“We start up the season against Prolific Prep this week and I am glad to get things going,” said Warren. “I feel great going into the season, too. My jumpshot is better and I am more of a vocal leader this year. I am just trying to do all of the little things you have to do at point guard. I want to show that I can do both – score and pass the ball. I want to keep being a vocal leader like a true point guard and showcase my game.”

Following Mississippi State’s season-opening win over Arizona State on Wednesday night, head coach Chris Jans was able to comment on Warren once his signing was official.

“We are excited,” noted Jans. “He is a high energy kid. Plays with a burst. He’s got speed. I love the fact that he is a pass-first guy but he can score the ball. He is a lefty. I love lefty point guards and bigs. What really impressed me were his hands. He has quick hands and gets them on a lot of balls and has a high-compete level. We are excited he is joining us and can’t wait for next year for him to be with us.”

Since committing to Mississippi State a couple of months ago, Warren has continued the relationship-building process with his future coaches at Mississippi State. That inclues Jans and assistant coach Dave Anwar.

“They’ve been great to me and have show nothing but love,” Warren mentioned. “I’ve been talking to Coach Jans and Coach Anwar the most and those relationships are strong. Coach Jans has been telling me to stay in the gym and to be ready so I can make an immediate impact. He said I can’t wait around and I have to contribute right away.

“I talk with Coach Anwar basically every day and we have the best relationship on that staff. He’s been on me about staying in the weight room to make sure I get bigger and stronger.”

Warren got his first in-person look at Mississippi State’s program via an official visit in September, the same weekend he committed to the Bulldogs. And that visit opened Warren’s eyes to State being the right fit for him at the next level.

“It was really the love they showed me on my visit and how hard they recruited me,” recalled Warren. “I appreciated that and on my visit, I saw right away it was the perfect spot for me. My personality translates well to their program and that is why it is the best fit for me.”

Next year Warren will get his first taste of SEC basketball and yes, he expects that to present an adjustment. But it is also a challenge he is welcoming with open arms.

“There is no better place to play than the SEC,” noted Warren. “The top players in college basketball are there and it doesn’t get bigger than the SEC. So that has me excited to have the chance to experience all of that in the SEC.”
