Former Texas transfer linebacker Derion Gullette commits to Mississippi State
On Wednesday afternoon Mississippi State added another piece of the transfer portal to the defensive side of the ball. Former Texas transfer linebacker Derion Gullette announced his intentions to transfer to Mississippi State with three years left to play.
The former On3 four-star prospect missed his senior season at Teague (Texas) High School due to a knee injury, which also led to Gullette redshirting at Texas in 2023. This past season the 6-foot-3 and 235-pound Gullette played in five games for Texas and totaled two tackles.
In the Class of 2024, Gullette was rated as the nation’s No. 7 linebacker prospect per On3 and was rated as the nation’s No. 82 overall prospect by On3 rankings, as well. Gullette officially visited Mississippi State earlier this week and also had scheduled visits to Ole Miss and North Carolina before cancelling those visits.

Overall, Gullette becomes the ninth transfer commitment for head coach Jeff Lebby and his staff and the fifth transfer commitment on the defensive side of the ball. He joins former Northern Illinois edge Nevaeh Sanders, former Kennesaw State cornerback Jayven Williams, former Old Dominion safety Jahron Manning and former N.C. State defensive end Red Hibbler.
The winter transfer portal window closes on December 28th, which is the last day players can start the transfer process. The dead period for official visits regarding transfers begins on midnight on Sunday.
