Former James Madison transfer offensive lineman Jesse Ramil got his first look at Mississippi State’s program on Sunday and Monday. That visit left a lasting impression on Ramil as he committed to the Bulldogs before leaving Starkville.

Ramil and his family felt right at home on Mississippi State’s campus and now Ramil gets the chance to spend his final season of college football in the SEC.

“It’s SEC ball,” Ramil mentioned. “Coach (Cody) Kennedy is a great coach and there is a great opportunity there. It was my only visit and I felt like it was the right opportunity for me.”

Ramil started at left tackle this past season for James Madison after beginning his college career at St. Frances. However, he also noted that he’s versatile enough to play other positions in the trenches, if needed.

“It’s a great program and a lot of opportunity there,” remarked the 6-foot-5 and 305-pound Ramil. “It’s SEC ball so I’m excited about that. We talked about left tackle but I’m a flex guy that can other spots, too. But primarily I’m a left tackle.”

Among Ramil’s highlights on his Bulldog visit was simply talking football and offensive line techniques with head coach Jeff Lebby and Kennedy. And knowing Lebby’s background as an offensive lineman was a plus for Ramil, as well.

“It went great with Coach Kennedy and Coach Lebby,” noted Ramil, a Binghamton, N.Y., native. “Both of those guys have an offensive line background. They know their stuff and they know what they are doing. It was great being around guys that understand it at a high level. That was pretty cool.”

Another added bonus for Ramil was Mississippi State’s facilities. Obviously, it was a sight to see for Ramil and his family and he’s eager to start working inside those facilities in January.

“Well, I played at James Madison and St. Frances,” explained Ramil. “So I’ve never been in facilities that have so much from top to bottom. It was amazing to see all of their facilities and how much they have there on campus.”

While his stay in the transfer portal was short and quick, it was also what Ramil was hoping for when he left James Madison.

“Man, it feels good,” Ramil added. “The transfer portal is crazy and it can get hectic. So it was good to go ahead and make my decision.”

With his decision, Ramil becomes the third offensive transfer addition for Mississippi State, joining former Oklahoma receiver Brenen Thompson and former Michigan State receiver Jaron Glover.
