It’s baseball season yet again.

The Major League Baseball season is underway and several former Mississippi State players are doing their thing on baseball’s biggest stage. That includes former State standout Jake Mangum who made his debut with Tampa Bay this year and he has made a major impact.

The State legend is one of seven former Bulldogs that are active in the league with several more likely in and out this year. A few players made moves in the offseason like Nathaniel Lowe going to Washington and Adam Frazier making his return to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jordan Westburg is back looking to build on his breakthrough season with the Baltimore Orioles while Brent Rooker is hoping to continue his great run with Oakland. State also has arms Brandon Woodruff and JP France working back recovering from injuries last season.

Over the last week, Chris Stratton was sent down to Triple A while JT Ginn made his return to Oakland for the first time in a month and managed 3.0 scoreless innings with just one hit, no walks and five strikeouts against Houston.  His teammate, Rooker, had a nine-hit week including mashing two more home runs and getting over 400 career hits.

Meanwhile, Mangum and Westburg are going head-to-head in a series with both notching four hits in the first two games. Westburg has 10 hits in his first seven games back from injury with three home runs while Mangum has helped the Rays to an 11-4 record since his return.
