It’s time for the NFL playoffs.

Teams are ready to kick things off this weekend with the Wild Card round beginning on Saturday. This season, Mississippi State has four players vying for the Lombardi Trophy with a three-time NFL champion having a shot at three-straight titles.

Autry, Jenkins and Slay kick things off over the weekend

Wild Card Weekend begins on Saturday as former State defensive lineman Denico Autry and his Houston Texans host the Los Angeles Chargers on CBS at 3:30 p.m. The AFC South champions of Houston finished the regular season 10-7 and are the No. 4 seed in the AFC.

Autry has been dealing with a lingering knee injury and missed the last two ball games, but he is expected to play on Saturday. Having worked through multiple injuries this season, Autry hasn’t been able to have the season he’s wanted but does have 3.0 sacks in 10 games and will be an issue for the Chargers if he’s on the field.

On Sunday, there will be a matchup between two former State players as the No. 7 Green Bay Packers head to No. 2 Philadelphia in a 3:30 p.m. matchup on FOX. Starting offensive guard Elgton Jenkins started all 17 games for the Packers this season and played in all but nine offensive snaps. The Packers finished 11-6 on the year but were third in a loaded division that included 15-2 Detroit and 14-3 Minnesota.

On the other side will be multi-time Pro Bowler Darius Slay with the Eagles. After the Eagles got off to a 2-2 start this season, they won 12 of the final 13 games. Slay didn’t have an interception this year but finished with 13 pass deflections and it got him to 160 in his career. That number is good for 7th in the NFL’s history.

On a bye for the first round is the AFC’s No. 1 seed – the Kansas City Chiefs. Bulldog great Chris Jones had another great season as he helped the Chiefs to a 15-2 record. This year, he’s going for his unprecedented third-straight Super Bowl championship and the fourth of his career.

Jones made his seventh-straight Pro Bowl and has a chance at five-consecutive All-Pro honors. He had 37 tackles this year with 9.0 TFL and 5.0 sacks. Jones and the Chiefs will take on an opponent to be determined next week.
