Speedy Georgia WR Anthony Evans to transfer to Mississippi State
Ahead of the start of spring classes in Starkville, Georgia wide receiver Anthony Evans has decided to keep his school mascot intact.
After playing for the Bulldogs of Georgia the last two seasons, Evans entered the transfer portal recently and he’s now heading to Mississippi State. Evans visited Starkville last week and shut his recruitment down on Monday. He also visited SMU prior to his trip to State.
In two seasons at UGA, Evans played multiple roles for the Bulldogs in 19 ball games. He caught 13 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown and was the team’s primary punt returner as a sophomore with 17 returns for 129 yards this season, helping the Bulldogs to the SEC Championship game and the playoffs.
The Texas native was a consensus four-star recruit in the class of 2023. The On3 Industry rankings had him as the No. 197 player in the country, the No. 27 wide out and the No. 35 player inside the state of Texas. The previous MSU staff offered Evans, but they had company as he racked up several verbals from teams like UGA, Okalhoma, Texas A&M, Oregon, Penn State, Arkansas, TCU, Florida State, Michigan State, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Missouri, Colorado and many others.

Interestingly enough, Evans first committed to Oklahoma where Bulldog head coach Jeff Lebby was offensive coordinator. He made a decision to join the Sooners just before the season in 2022, but would ultimately flip to UGA prior to signing day that season.
The speedy slot caught 111 passes in three years for Judson High School in Texas while running up 1,641 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. Evans also had 367 career kick or punt return yards on 17 returns.
Evans is the sixth WR to commit to Lebby and position coach Chad Bumphis this portal cycle. He’s the fourth commitment for the group this week as he joins Cam Thompson (Northern Illinois), Markus Allen (Eastern Michigan) and Ayden Williams (Ole Miss). State has 23 players that have been added to the roster from the portal this offseason.
