2025 Mississippi State commit Geron Johnson sets sights on more production this fall
2025 Mississippi State commitment Geron Johnson is coming off an impressive junior season at Bartlett (Tenn.) High School. With preparations already underway for his senior campaign, the On3 three-star prospects is eyeing more production to help his team experience a deeper postseason journey this fall.
Last season Johnson rushed for 1,882 yards and 24 touchdowns while averaging nearly seven yards a carry. Johnson is rated as the nation’s No. 28 running back and the state’s No. 12 prospect per On3 rankings.
“We started practice not long ago,” Johnson said. “I’m at running back, slot and safety. So far it’s going well and we’re working very hard. I want to have more yards per carry this year and help us win a championship.”
Johnson also wants to prep for his career at Mississippi State, as well, in the coming months. He’s watched his share of film regarding head coach Jeff Lebby’s offensive system and realizes he will also have to play a role in the passing game, too.
“I think that’s going to help me,” added the 6-foot and 180-pound Johnson. “I’m already used to that offense because of what we run. It’s also important for me to catch the ball well because Coach Lebby’s backs have to do that in his offense, too.”
Johnson committed to Mississippi State last month and did so during his official visit to Starkville. He plans to be back in town on Thursday and he has started building relationships with his future teammates.
“It’s been going very well with Mississippi State,” remarked Johnson. “I am going there Thursday, too, for a barbeque deal with all of the other recruits. I love it there and it’s like my second family. I’ve starting to get to know our quarterback in our class – Kamario (Taylor) and it’s going well with him. It should be a lot of fun when we all get there in that offense.”

Johnson collected his State offer following a pair of impressive camp showings in late May and June. It didn’t take him long to hit it off well with Lebby and running backs coach Anthony Tucker, which both played factors in his college decision.
“Coach Lebby checks on me all the time and hits me up,” Johnson mentioned. “He’s been making sure I’m staying straight and it’s the same with Coach Tucker. Coach Lebby said he’s going to have good packages for me in the offense.”
“Coach Tucker is a great guy and he’s good about checking up on me. I love him as a coach and as a person. He’s got a good personality and he’s a funny guy. And I really like the way he coaches.”
Since giving his commitment to the Bulldogs, Johnson said he still hears from a couple of other programs on the recruiting trail. Yet he is confident in his State choice.
“I’m still hearing from a few other schools,” Johnson noted. “It’s mainly the schools that were recruiting me, schools like Ole Miss and Arkansas State, and that’s about it. But I’m happy with my decision and I can’t wait to get to Mississippi State.”
