2025 signee Gracen Harris grateful for new opportunity at Mississippi State
Not long before the December signing day, On3 three-star receiver Gracen Harris had to take a change of course with his college career. The Ennis (Texas) High School playmaker had been committed to Oklahoma for nearly a year.
But things quickly changed with his plans to attend Oklahoma and the Sooners had a different plan for Harris. So he ended up committing to Mississippi State and officially signed with the Bulldogs earlier this week. Harris is rated as the nation’s No. 85 receiver and the state’s No. 75 prospect by On3 composite rankings.
“It all started to take place three days before signing day,” Harris recalled. “I had gotten a call from Oklahoma and they said they were going to grayshirt me. Then my dad got to calling and Coach Lebby gave me a call back within an hour. So that was pretty much it.”
Of course, Harris was already familiar with Lebby due to Lebby’s time as offensive coordinator at Oklahoma in 2023. In fact, Lebby was on the Sooners’ staff when Harris initially committed to Oklahoma.
“I was committed to Coach Lebby when he was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma,” added the 5-foot-9 and 160-pound Harris. “So we know each other well. He was pretty excited when I signed and that made me feel good.”
This past season at Ennis High School, Harris did a little bit of everything on the offensive side of the ball. He finished the year with 64 catches for 1,065 yards and 10 touchdowns and he also rushed for 395 yards and six more scores. Harris also played some quarterback as a senior and had 236 yards passing and two touchdown passes.
Now he is eager to make plays in Lebby’s system.
“I like his offense,” Harris remarked. “He gets the receivers the ball and lets his athletes just go play football. So I can’t wait to do that in his offense.”

Along with Lebby, Harris also had a previous relationship with State receivers coach Chad Bumphis. So that also made the transition a smooth one following signing day.
“It’s been good with Coach Bump,” mentioned Harris. “Me and Coach Bump had already talked before when Coach Lebby first got the job at Mississippi State. So it’s good that we already knew each other.”
Harris also remarked that he is graduating early with plans to be at Mississippi State in January. Despite the twists and turns this month, he’s thankful to call Mississippi State his new home.
“The process has been okay,” noted Harris. “It obviously had its ups and downs, and I thought I was going to Oklahoma until the last minute. But God has a place for everybody and I am just glad to be at Mississippi State.”
