Head coach Chris Jans announces pair of closed-door basketball scrimmages
On Monday’s Dear Ol’ State podcast, Mississippi State head coach Chris Jans announced that his Bulldog squad will play a pair of closed-door scrimmages.
During the podcast, Jans noted that Mississippi State will host Western Kentucky at Humphrey Coliseum on October 12th before traveling to Birmingham, Ala., to face Georgia Tech on October 27th. Both scrimmages will be closed to media and fans.
Mississippi State is coming off a 21-14 season in the 2023-24 campaign and the Bulldogs also finished 8-10 in the SEC. For the second straight season, the Bulldogs earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and fell to Michigan State in the first round.
The Bulldogs return leading scorer Josh Hubbard along with veterans Cameron Matthews and Keshawn Murphy. In the offseason, the Bulldogs also boosted the backcourt talent with transfers in Kanye Clary, Claudell Harris, RJ Melendez and Riley Kugel. Mississippi State also brought in a pair of transfer centers in sophomores Jeremy Foumena and Michael Nwoko.

On the Dear Ol’ State podcast with Mississippi State’s Joel Coleman and Logan Lowery, Jans said he prefers closed-door scrimmages due to having the ability to coach different situations on the court.
Last year the Bulldogs defeated Southern Miss in a charity exhibition game before the season and also played Oklahoma in a closed-door scrimmage in Little Rock, Ark. And before Jans’ initial season (2022-23) at Mississippi State, the Bulldogs hosted Arkansas-Little Rock and played North Texas in Shreveport, La., in closed-door scrimmages.
