Mississippi State Press Conference Vs. Virginia 6-2-24

Mississippi State has worked to fill holes in the lineup and the field recently, but the Bulldogs now have a pitcher added to the mix out of the transfer portal.

Indiana State RHP Jacob Pruitt announced his intentions to join the fold on Tuesday afternoon. Pruitt comes to State after a great season with an Indiana State team that was on the verge of hosting an NCAA Regional.

Pruitt was among the team’s best arms as a sophomore this year. He finished the season 3-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 13 appearances and five of those were starts. Pruitt earned a save on the year as well.

In 41.2 innings, the 6’1, 185-pounder gave up 36 hits, 14 earned runs and 23 walks while striking out 57 batters. Opposing hitters batted .232 against him. Indiana State finished the season 44-15 and were 22-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference with a regular season championship. They lost in the tournament against Evansville keeping them out of hosting a Regional.

Pruitt and his team lost in the Regional Championship against eventual College World Series participant Kentucky. Against Illinois and Kentucky in that Regional, Pruitt threw 6.1 innings, gave up six hits, three runs, four walks and struck out two batters.

The sophomore made a big jump from his freshman season when he threw in 12 ball games with a 6.75 ERA. Pruitt struck out 20 batters in 17.1 innings with eight walks.

While USC Upstate utility player Noah Sullivan can also pitch, Pruitt is the first true pitcher in the transfer class for the Bulldogs. State is having to replace weekend starters Khal Stephen and Jurrangelo Cijntje as well as key bullpen arms Tyler Davis and Tyson Hardin.

Pruitt joins transfer commits in Sullivan, 1B Reed Stallman from Campbell, OF Ace Reese of Houston, SS Sawyer Reeves of The Citadel and 3B Gehrig Frei from North Alabama.
