This past weekend Mississippi Delta Community College’s Ja’Bryis Stewart got the news he was waiting to hear. That news centered around a Mississippi State offer and the 2025 safety prospect took Mississippi State up on its offer Monday.

Stewart became the 21st commitment for head coach Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs’ Class of 2025. He is also the fourth commitment for Mississippi State over the past two days. Stewart was originally committed to Florida International before switching routes on Monday.

“Not gonna lie, my first visit to Mississippi State is what made me fall in love with them,” explained the 6-foot-2 and 200-pound Stewart. “I was just waiting on them to throw me an offer. I was there this past weekend and then I told them I was committing this morning. It was exciting and felt good to be there. So when I got the offer, I knew I wouldn’t need long.”

Stewart is expected to graduate in December and he has three years left to play two at the next level. He’s no stranger to Mississippi State’s campus this year and noted of his excitement of being around State’s coaches and program.

“Every time I visited there it felt great,” mentioned Stewart. “Every time it was like I was visiting for the first time all over again and I was just excited to be around their program. They’ve got good people there that care about you.”

Less than 48 hours after receiving the Bulldog offer, Stewart was eager to share the news with Mississippi State defensive coordinator Coleman Hutzler. And naturally, Hutzler was also thrilled to receive the news.

“I told Coach Hutzler, the defensive coordinator, about my news,” Stewart added. “He was excited and said it was a good thing. He was excited I didn’t take long to commit and it was just a matter of time.”

This past season Stewart collected 53 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. At the next level, Stewart said he’s open to playing any position and he lined up at a variety of spots during his time at Mississippi Delta.

“I’m an athlete so I will play wherever they need me,” remarked Stewart. “I can play all of the safety positions. I could even play linebacker and I played some defensive end my freshman year. So I can come off the edge, too.”

Now that his college future is mapped out, Stewart is eager to get down to serious work. And he is also ready to put on for the Magnolia State with the Bulldogs.

“It’s just a big blessing for me,” Stewart noted. “I’m not taking anything for granted and I’m going in there January and I’m going hard. I’m taking this seriously and Coach Hutzler said they need guys who have love for the state and love for Mississippi State. So I have a chance to do that for them.”
