2025 tight end Joeseph Skipworth breaks down decision to flip to Mississippi State
Over the past week Mississippi State has steadily added new commitments to the Class of 2025 and that trend continued Saturday. 2025 tight end and On3 three-star prospect Joeseph Skipworth flipped his commitment from Kansas to Mississippi State per his social media message on Instagram.
Skipworth initially committed to Kansas back in June and also holds other Power 4 offers from SMU, Boston College, Illinois, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. The Pace (Fla.) High School product is rated as the nation’s No. 65 tight end prospect per On3 composite rankings.
“It was closer to home for me,” Skipworth remarked. “And it’s in the SEC. Having an opportunity to play in the SEC is something I’ve dreamed of since I was a kid.”
Over the course of the past few months, Skipworth has been in regular communication with Mississippi State tight ends coach Joeseph Skipworth. And naturally, Cooper was glad to hear the news from Skipworth.
“I actually told the coaches on Thursday,” added the 6-foot-5 and 215-pound Skipworth. “I told Coach Cooper that day and he was fired up about it. It was great to tell him the news.”
Skipworth received his Mississippi State offer not long after he made his Kansas decision this summer. As interest continued to grow from the Bulldogs’ staff, Skipworth eventually officially visited the Bulldogs. He took that initial trip to Starkville last month.

“Two days after I committed to Kansas, Mississippi State called and offered me,” recalled Skipworth. “Then they’ve stayed in touch ever since. Recently, Coach (Jon) Cooper came to see me play a game and asked me to come there for a game. I went there for spring practice last year and I wanted to get back there. So I did that for my official visit last month and it went great.”
Skipworth is still winding down his senior season and hopes to continue that process this month. Skipworth and his Pace teammates have only dropped one game this season and just advanced to the second round of the postseason.
“It’s going good this season and we’re 10-1 right now,” Skipworth explained. “We’re in the second round of the (Class 6A) playoffs, too, I’ve been doing good at tight end. I’m at 22 receptions for 380 yards and four touchdowns. At this point of the season that’s pretty good.”
Skipworth is the third Mississippi State in three days and the 19th overall commitment in State’s Class of 2025. Juco defensive lineman Mason Clinton of East Mississippi Community College selected the Bulldogs on Thursday and then Oak Grove High School receiver Anson Lewis joined the class on Friday.
