Since collecting a Mississippi State offer at Top Dawg Camp in June, 2025 quarterback prospect Kamario Taylor has had the Bulldogs on his mind. On Friday morning, the Noxubee County High School standout accepted that offer and committed to Mississippi State.

Taylor has been a regular visitor to Davis Wade Stadium and State’s campus this fall. He saw no reason to wait any longer to make his college decision and Taylor also holds offers from Vanderbilt and Southern Miss.

“I told the coaches last week that I was going to commit on Friday,” noted Taylor. “I told Coach (Zach) Arnett and Coach (Kevin) Barbay about my plans and they were excited. I have been thinking about this for awhile now so I figured I would go ahead and commit.”

During his trips to campus this season, Taylor has studied the Bulldogs’ new offensive approach under Barbay’s watch. While he realizes it is a different system for him, he is eager to learn and adjust to the offense at Mississippi State.

“I like everything about State, the tradition, the atmosphere, the energy there and all of that,” Taylor added. “I have not played in an offense like that yet but I love to watch their offense. I know I can adapt to it and it will be fun adapting to a pro-style type of offense.”

Along with his relationships with the staff, Taylor also pointed to another factor that played an important role in his Bulldog choice. He grew up just 30 minutes from Mississippi State’s campus and Taylor prefers to be close to home for his college career.

“My family loved my commitment and they love State,” remarked Taylor, the nephew of former Mississippi State quarterback Omarr Conner. “So it means to me and them that I can stay close to home. If I get homesick I know I can go back home at any time. So that definitely played a big part.”

Taylor, who is hoping to be an early high school graduate, has already started recruiting other 2025 in-state targets to join him in the class. That includes On3 four-star receiver Caleb Cunningham of Choctaw County High School and On3 four-star running back Akylin Dear of Quitman High School.

“I know I want to get Caleb Cunningham and Akyli Dear and I’ve already been talking to those guys a lot,” Taylor mentioned. “I talked to some guys today at Caleb’s school and they said Caleb was excited when he heard about my news. They said that will boost State’s chances of getting Caleb now.”

Entering tonight’s game against Enterprise High School, the 6-foot-4 and 180-pound Taylor has completed 112 of 193 passes for 1,897 yards with 20 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Last season at Noxubee County, an injury kept Taylor from being the Tigers’ full-time quarterback for much of the season. But now it is obvious who the leader of the team is, according to Noxubee County head coach Teddy Young.

“He has done a great job this year,” Young noted. “He has put himself in a leadership role and kids follow him and look up to him. None of this would be possible without his leadership and his understanding of defenses is the biggest stride he has made this season.”

With Taylor’s decision, he becomes Mississippi State’s second commitment in the Class of 2025. He joins Madison (Ala.) Academy linebacker AJ Rice, who became State’s first 2025 commitment back in September.
