After debating a possible second season in the Maroon and White, Mississippi State receiver Kelly Akharaiyi has opted to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. The Irving, Texas, native announced that decision on Friday afternoon via his Twitter page.

Initially, Akhariyi has thoughts of returning to Mississippi State to take advantage of the new juco ruling by the NCAA. Akharaiyi did begin his juco career in 2020 but he also graduated high school in 2019, which would’ve made it difficult for Akharaiyi to receive an extra year to play for the Bulldogs.

This past season Akharaiyi totaled 25 catches for 391 yards with two touchdowns for Mississippi State. Akharaiyi arrived at Mississippi State last January and got off to a quick start per coaches in spring practice. However, an injury in training camp hampered Akharaiyi at the start of his senior season.

He began his FBS career at UTEP where he hauled in 48 catches for 1,033 yards and seven touchdowns in the 2023 campaign.

This offseason Mississippi State has to replace three of its top four receivers. Leading receiver Kevin Coleman transferred to Missouri while rising sophomore Mario Craver opted to transfer to Texas A&M. Entering the 2025 season, State’s leading returning receiver is rising senior Jordan Mosley, who had 23 catches for 405 yards and three touchdowns this past season.
