Mississippi State lost another key offensive piece to the portal on Wednesday afternoon as Kevin Coleman announced his intentions to enter.

Coleman took to Twitter with a statement on his intentions to play a final season elsewhere.

“I want to start by saying wholeheatedly I have love for everyone in the building. I am grateful to Coach (Jeff) Lebby and the staff for helping me continue to grow on and off the field. I loved getting to play with teammates and appreciate the bonds we made. I also want to thank the fans who welcome me and supported us throughout the season,” Coleman said.

“There comes a time in life when you wonder why things go the way they do, but you learn that’s called life. This was a very hard decision to make for me, but a very important one as well. Last chapter of collegiate football, let’s make it a memorable one. I know God got me.”

In his one season with the Bulldogs, Coleman certainly made an impact. The SEC coaches selected him third team All-SEC at wide receiver as he caught 74 passes for 932 yards and six touchdowns. Coleman also made an impact at punt returner with 16 returns for 153 yards. He was one of the few bright spots on a 2-10 Bulldog team in Lebby’s first year.

This will be stop number four for Coleman in a four-year span as the former four-star WR from St. Louis began by playing for Deion Sanders at Jackson State. Coleman was the SWAC Freshman of the Year after catching 32 passes for 475 yards and three touchdowns and would enter the transfer portal for Louisville.

In 14 games playing with the Cardinals, Coleman started 11 and had 26 catches for 362 yards and two touchdowns with 26 rushes for 117 yards.

Coleman is the third big offensive piece to transfer out of Starkville in the last three days. Freshman WR Mario Craver announced his transfer on Monday with QB Michael Van Buren following on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs have also seen transfers from freshman WR JJ Harrell and sophomore Creed Whittemore already this offseason and will have to hit the portal for more wide receiver talent.
