Diamond Dawgs land top 10 2027 prospect Kyler Meccage

Brian O’Connor’s incredible start to the 2027 signing class doesn’t appear that it will slow down anytime soon and it got another major boost on Wednesday.
The latest addition to the class is a top 10 player nationally in IMG Academy outfielder and left-handed pitcher Kyler Meccage. He announced on his Instagram on Wednesday that Starkville would be his destination.
Meccage came on a visit to State just a couple of weeks ago as the Bulldogs have been churning out visits left and right for the 2027 class. He also visited Tennessee, Florida State and Auburn before making the call to commit to O’Connor and the Bulldog staff.
The talent that Meccage possesses has him towards the top of the food chain in the next signing class. Perfect Game has him as the No. 9 player in the country with Baseball America having him the highest at No. 7.

In addition to a sweet swing from the left side, Meccage is a weapon on the mound. He’s topping out in the low 90’s as he heads into his junior year of high school ball with a changeup and curveball that have sharpened over the summer in the showcases.
Meccage is part of a ’27 class that is growing into one of the nation’s best just a couple of months into it. Fellow LHP Connor Salerno committed recently out of the state of North Carolina and is considered the top LHP in the entire class. The Bulldogs also landed top 100 players like catcher Carson Kinnick from California and 3B Sullivan Reed from Lamar School as well as rising infielder Fischer Howell out of Petal High School.
More big-time commitments could be on the way as the Bulldogs are hard after players like Jackson Academy’s Deuce Jenkins and Tennessee’s Gaven French. State is also in heavy pursuit of a couple of the nation’s best that moved from ’27 to 2026 in Bulldog legacy SS Rocco Maniscalco and C Will Brick.
