Louisville receiver Kevin Coleman announces plans to transfer to Mississippi State
Since arriving at Mississippi State several weeks ago, head coach Jeff Lebby has hit the ground running in recruiting. That includes adding immediate help from the transfer portal and Lebby and his staff collected another important piece on Thursday.
Former Louisville transfer and On3 four-star receiver Kevin Coleman announced his decision Thursday to transfer to Mississippi State. The 5-foot-10 and 170-pound Coleman officially visited Mississippi State on Wednesday and Thursday, and canceled his official visit to Texas A&M, which was scheduled for later this week.
The St. Louis, Mo., native began his college career at Jackson State where he was the SWAC Freshman of the Year. In that 2022 campaign, Coleman reeled in 33 catches for 510 yards with three touchdowns while also averaging 25.3 yards per kickoff return.
In his first season (2023) at Louisville, Coleman hauled in 26 catches for 362 yards with two touchdowns. He is expected to play slot receiver for the Bulldogs and has two years of remaining eligibility. In the Class of 2022, Coleman was listed as the No. 71 overall prospect by On3 composite rankings.

Coleman is the second receiver transfer added to Mississippi State’s 2024 roster this offseason. Last month former UTEP receiver Kelly Akharaiyi signed with Mississippi State after collecting 48 catches for 1,033 yards and seven touchdowns in the 2023 campaign.
Last month was also a big splash for Mississippi State receivers coach Chad Bumphis in the high school ranks. In December, the Bulldogs signed On3 composite four-star receivers Braylon Burnside and JJ Harrell along with On3 three-star receivers Mario Craver and Ricky Johnson. Burnside and Craver competed in the Under Armour All-American game earlier this week.
