2026 tight end Luke Hutchinson joins Mississippi State's class

This weekend Mississippi State will welcome another large group of official visitors to wrap up the summer recruiting period. But the Bulldogs are still reaping the benefits from last weekend’s official visitors, as well.
2026 tight end and On3 three-star prospect Luke Hutchinson announced his Mississippi State commitment on Friday via his social media page. Hutchinson officially visited Mississippi State last weekend and that makes five visitors from last weekend that are now in the Bulldogs’ Class of 2026. Hutchinson is rated as the nation’s No. 93 tight end and the state’s No. 50 prospect by On3 composite rankings.
Hutchinson spent the past two seasons at Montgomery (Tenn.) Bell Academy before transferring to Avon Old Farms in Connecticut for his senior season. Hutchinson also holds other Power 4 offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Nebraska, and also officially visited Virginia earlier this month.
“It was good and I had a great time,” Hutchinson said recently about his official visit. “We did a little bit of everything. When we got there we met all of the coaches and got to know the coaches on the opposite side of the ball. They really preach people there and I saw that doesn’t go unnoticed.”
Hutchinson was planning to officially visit Texas A&M this weekend but opted to cancel those plans. His father is former NFL standout offensive lineman Steve Hutchinson, who was also former NFL teammates with Mississippi State tight ends coach Jon Cooper.

This past weekend Hutchinson got to learn more about his role with the Bulldogs in Jeff Lebby’s offense.
“Coach Cooper was mainly went over some film and some cut-ups,” Hutchinson explained. “He was showing me what it looks like for me in the offense. He was showing me what he does in their room and went over a lot of those things. So it was a good session.”
With his decision, the 6-foot-3.5 and 235-pound Hutchinson becomes the second tight end commitment in the class. Florida native Adam Land committed to State earlier this month and the Bulldogs are also hosting tight end/receiver prospect Zayion Cotton this weekend.
