Mississippi State’s search for a transfer quarterback in this cycle concluded on Tuesday. The Bulldogs received a commitment from former Florida State transfer Luke Kromenhoek and his commitment was a major boost for head coach Jeff Lebby and his staff.

The 6-foot-4 and 210-pound Kromenhoek officially visited Mississippi State on Sunday and Monday, and it ended up being his lone official visit.

Kromenhoek and his parents exited the visit on Monday afternoon and then Kromenhoek committed to head coach Jeff Lebby on Tuesday.

“Everything stood out to me,” Kromenhoek recalled. “Coach Lebby and his staff are unbelievable people. Everything they showed us and talked to me and my family about, it really looked like the whole package of what we want in a school.”

Kromenhoek started one game this past season for the Seminoles as a true freshman and has three years of remaining eligibility. On the season, Kromenhoek completed 44 of 84 passes for 502 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions, and he also rushed for 113 yards this season.

While on campus, Kromenhoek got the full rundown of the offense from Lebby. That covered the ins and outs of Lebby’s system along with Kromenhoek’s future in Starkville.

“We sat down and watched film of the offense for two hours,” added Kromenhoek. “We talked about the development process and how he was going to develop me and the things I was going to be doing. It was unbelievable.”

As Kromenhoek left that meeting, he couldn’t help but be impressed with Lebby’s background on the offensive side of the ball. And he got to see the numbers to back up those thoughts and production.

“The numbers speak for themselves,” Kromenhoek noted. “Obviously, the offensive production under Coach Lebby is wild. Definitely great to see all of that and see all of those numbers. To have that film session and go over all of the numbers, it really stood out of us.”

Kromenhoek was a five-star prospect by On3 in the Class of 2024. He was rated as the nation’s No. 26 overall prospect and the nation’s No. 3 quarterback by On3 rankings within the class. His relationship with Lebby also dates back to Kromenhoek’s recruiting days in high school when Lebby was the Oklahoma offensive coordinator.

“I think Coach Lebby is a special dude,” mentioned Kromenhoek. “When he was recruiting me when he was at Oklahoma, I thought he was a high integrity guy and somebody I would want to play for. The vision he has for Mississippi State and the direction I think they’re headed in, Mississippi State football is going to be in really good hands the next couple of years.”

Naturally, Kromenhoek didn’t envision his time at Florida State being just one season. But with that in his past, he’s now looking for his next gridiron chapter at Mississippi State.

This offseason, Mississippi State’s had a pair of quarterbacks recently transfer out of the program in Michael Van Buren, who started eight games for the Bulldogs as a true freshman, and Chris Parson. Van Buren recently committed to LSU while Parson has not made his decision yet.

“Nobody commits to a school coming out of high school thinking they will be in the transfer portal the next year,” Kromenhoek explained. “Obviously, I was bummed out by that whole situation but it’s all part of God’s plan. It’s definitely been tough but I was blessed to have a lot of schools reach out and talk to me. So it’s been a huge blessing and I look forward to calling Mississippi State home.”

Senior Blake Shapen has already announced his intentions to return to Mississippi State for his final season of eligibility. Shapen started the first four games for the Bulldogs this past season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. In January, Mississippi State will also welcome 2025 signee and highly-touted quarterback KaMario Taylor of Noxubee County High School.
