In a few more weeks, 2024 Mississippi State commit Luke Work will enroll and get a head start on his Bulldog student-athlete career. This past weekend, the On3 three-star offensive lineman took another step towards getting used to his new surroundings.

The Lausanne Collegiate (Tenn.) School product was among several Mississippi State commits in Starkville over the weekend for their official visits. Work is rated as the nation’s No. 90 offensive tackle and the state’s No. 43 prospect by On3 composite rankings.

“It was great just getting to know the new coaches better,” Work said. “It was also good hanging out with all of the commits and getting a better relationship with them.”

Over the past week or so, Work has met with new head coach Jeff Lebby and offensive line coach Cody Kennedy in person. The weekend stay in Starkville gave Work another chance to learn more about Lebby’s vision for the program.

“It went well with Coach Lebby,” added Work. “He has big plans and if we just go with the plan everything will be good. He said he is ready to have me up there in January.”

Of late, Work has noted of the instant connection he felt with Kennedy and likes the idea of being coached by Kennedy next season. During his visit, Work felt even more confident about Kennedy’s style of coaching.

“I thought it went great with Coach Kennedy,” said Work. “Great guy, awesome guy and I think he’s a great coach. I think we connected well together and I think it is a perfect fit. He still likes me at left tackle.”

Work was able to get some insight into the program, as well, with his time around a Mississippi State offensive lineman. Naturally, he also spent time building bonds with his fellow classmates, too.

“My host was Jakson LaHue and we had a good ol’ time,” Work mentioned. “He was telling me about everything, really. He was telling me about their workouts in the summer and how game days are different and stuff like that.

“I also hung out with JJ (Harrell), Michael (Van Buren), Jimothy Lewis, Fat (Fred Clark) and TJ (Lockhart). I was also around Ethan Miner and he was with me and Jakson. He is a great guy.”

As Work made his way back home, reality started to sink in that he will return to Starkville next month. As an early graduate, this time Work will have an extended stay on campus.

“For sure, it has hit me,” said Work. “It will be here in a few weeks and I am ready to get a early start. I get to learn the playbook quicker and hit the weight room early.”
