2024 commit Luke Work comfortable with new Mississippi State staff
As a long-time commitment in Mississippi State’s Class of 2024, On3 three-star offensive lineman Luke Work has observed a lot of changes within the Bulldogs’ program since making his college decision.
But last week, a lot of his concerns were put to rest when the Lausanne Collegiate (Tenn.) School standout met with new Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby. Work is rated as the nation’s No. 90 offensive tackle and the state’s No. 43 prospect by On3 composite rankings.
“Coach Lebby and Coach (Chad) Bumphis came by the school last Friday and it was great,” said the 6-foot-5 and 285-pound Work. “We talked for awhile about what he is doing with the program and it sounds like a good fit for me. He is changing things up and getting the program to how it should be. After meeting with him I believe I will fit in well there with Coach Lebby.”
A couple of days after that meeting with Lebby, Work also met with new Mississippi State offensive line coach Cody Kennedy, who coached at Arkansas the previous three seasons.
“Coach Kennedy came by the school Monday and we also talked last weekend,” Work added. “He has been doing a lot of traveling and is just getting settled in Starkville. He is a cool guy and we connected well together. Right now he is recruiting me as a left tackle and that is what I am used to playing.”
Work enjoyed a successful senior season at Lausanne Collegiate and helped his team advance to the second round of the playoffs. He noted of the improvements he made during his final prep campaign.
“We started pulling more on the line this year and I got better at that,” mentioned Work. “My vision was better when I had to pick up linebackers and blitzes. With our young offensive line, I had to know what I was looking at and know what was about to happen.”

Regarding the next level and as noted, Work and his fellow Bulldog commits have witnessed a lot of change during their recruiting process. But as a life-long Bulldog fan, he will continue his playing career where he always wanted to be.
“It is different now and it is a big change with the coaches,” Work noted. “But I love the school and the atmosphere, and I love the people at the school. It is crazy to think about how much has changed since I committed. But I am sticking with the plan God has made for me. I am ready to get to work and ready to compete.”
And that process will begin for Work sooner than later. He is set to officially visit State this weekend and will then enroll in January.
“I will be there early in January,” added Work. “Getting there early will help me to start putting on weight. I get to know the program sooner and I get to know my teammates. So I think it will be good for me.”
