Trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, Mississippi State’s offense came alive.

The No. 21 Diamond Dawgs were not content with simply taking the series against No. 18 Auburn – the Bulldogs wanted a sweep. A seven-run bottom of the fourth made that happen as Nadia Barbary’s grand slam gave the Bulldogs the lead and all the momentum in a 7-4 win on Monday.

After Auburn slowly built its lead to 4-0 in the fourth, the Bulldogs got things started with Kylee Edwards leadoff double. The first four in that inning would reach and Morgan Stiles would deliver a single that would score two runs and a fielding error scored another to cut it to 4-3.

With one out, Barbary stepped to the plate and she delivered the grand slam to send Nusz Park into a frenzy. The Bulldogs sent 11 to the plate with seven runs and four hits.

For the third-straight game, Raelin Chaffin would step in and help the Bulldogs win the game. After winning the first game of the series with a complete game and 144 pitches on Saturday night, Chaffin came in to close down Sunday and Monday’s games.

Chaffin earned a save for the second game in a row and threw the final 3.2 innings with just two hits, no runs and no walks surrendered. She also struck out five batters. Chaffin finished her first SEC weekend as a Bulldog throwing 12.2 innings with four total runs surrendered and 18 strikeouts.

Barbary and Edwards came through big for the Bulldogs in that fourth inning and both finished with two hits. Barbary had the four RBI on the home run in the game and Stiles added the other two RBI.

MSU’s great start to the season continues with the Bulldogs now 22-3 and off to a 3-0 start in SEC play. They handed Auburn three of their first four losses of the season after entering the weekend with one of the best records in the country.

The Bulldogs get a day off before going back to work on Wednesday to play Middle Tennessee in Starkville at 3 p.m. The team heads to Tuscaloosa on Friday to take on No. 22 Alabama in a three-game set.
