Dakota Jordan takes home 20th Annual Ferriss Trophy Award
In year 20 of the CSpire Ferris Trophy Award, Mississippi State has landed its ninth winner.
Sophomore outfielder Dakota Jordan is the 2024 recipient of the award; announced Monday morning at the Pearl River Resort in Choctaw, Miss. The Ferriss Trophy is given to the state of Mississippi’s best college baseball player each year and is named in honor of former Diamond Dawg legend Dave “Boo” Ferriss.
Jordan takes home the award in the middle of a season where he and his teammates are fighting for a hosting spot in the NCAA Tournament. It’s much different May than the Canton native experienced last season. The Bulldogs have gone from back-to-back seasons of nine wins in SEC play to a 17-13 SEC slate this year and the No. 5 seed in the SEC Tournament this week in Hoover, Ala.
Though the ups and downs that comes with playing the game have been there for Jordan this year, he’s still leading the team in several statistical categories. The Jackson Academy alum is the team leader in batting average (.363), OPS (1.169) hits (74), doubles (14), home runs (17), RBI (61), slugging percentage (.691), walks (43), and on base percentage (.478).

Jordan has also struck out at a high rate and currently is tied for the school record with 71, but he has found a way to power through and keep his numbers productive. In SEC play, he’s batting .304 with 34 hits, six doubles and five home runs.
There are now nine Bulldogs who have won the Ferriss Trophy since its inception in 2004. Jordan joins Thomas Berkery, Ed Easley, Chris Stratton, Hunter Renfroe, Jake Mangum (twice), Brent Rooker and Tanner Allen as a winner of the award. Ole Miss has six winners of the award with Southern Miss winning it four times. Jordan and the Bulldogs (36-19) will be back in action on Tuesday night at 8:30 in Hoover as the Bulldogs and Rebels will meet in rivalry action in the first round of the SEC Tournament
